Mental rehearsal

Many studies show that mental rehearsal can significantly improve your skills. Mental rehearsal for a possible emergency can help to prime us to act and respond to it much quicker and more effectively. Few people can think clearly and logically in a crisis, so it is important to do so in advance, when you have time to be thorough.

You can also increase your confidence and ability to handle a real emergency situation. Being prepared can reduce the fear, anxiety, and losses that emergencies often bring.

Based on recent news of terror attacks, public areas that see lots of traffic are becoming more popular as targets. If you find a moment to yourself in such a public area, and one that you frequent, take a few minutes to spot the exit signs, possible hiding areas and the nearest figures of authority. Then take another few minutes to imagine what you would do if something were to happen in the direction of your choice.
